The II International Rachmaninoff Competition for Pianists, Composers and Conductors has come to a close

The high-quality broadcasts of all competition events, which began on June 14, have already garnered close to 7 million views. Audiences from 72 countries followed the competition, including Russia, Belarus, China, Japan, the USA, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Germany, Mexico, the Netherlands, the UAE, the Czech Republic, Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Spain, Denmark, Israel, Canada, Brazil, Poland, Uzbekistan, Austria, Switzerland, Latvia, Georgia, Hong Kong, Australia, Sweden, Argentina, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, Portugal, Norway, Singapore, Serbia, Finland, Vietnam, Romania, Belgium, Kyrgyzstan, Colombia, Chile, Indonesia, India, Estonia, Lithuania, Thailand, Uruguay, Hungary, South Africa, Myanmar, Taiwan, the Philippines, Slovenia, Mongolia, Peru, Ecuador, Croatia, Iran, Ukraine, Slovakia, Malta, New Zealand, Venezuela, Ireland, Bolivia, and Tajikistan.

The competition also broke records in social media engagement, with nearly 25,000 comments posted by classical music lovers from around the world, accompanying the competition news and live stream players.

The contest was preceded by the project Visiting Rachmaninoff, which explored little-known facts about the composer’s life and featured his own words. Laureates of the First Competition had the opportunity to interact with Rachmaninoff’s personal belongings, carefully preserved in the Museum of Music, and share their reflections.

During the competition, daily video diaries were presented along with the special feature The Invisible Orchestra, offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at the event.

In the Piano category, two of the strongest Round II participants who did not advance to Round III received diplomas and special prizes: Yun Xuhua (China) и Sugimoto Saori (Japan);

In the Composition category: The Special Prize for the Best Piano Work was awarded to Eduard Kiprsky (Russia);

The Special Prize for the Best Work for Voice and Piano on Russian Poetry was awarded to Nina Siniakova (Belarus / USA)

 

Certificates of gratitude For outstanding work at the Competition were presented to the orchestras: The State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia “Evgeny Svetlanov”, The State Symphony Orchestra “Novaya Rossiya”, The Orchestra of the State Academic Symphony Capella of Russia, The Russian National Orchestra, and The Mariinsky Orchestra.

 

A total of 532 applications were submitted for the competition from 25 countries: Russia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, the United Kingdom, Vietnam, Brazil, Germany, Georgia, Jordan, Spain, Italy, Kazakhstan, Canada, China, Colombia, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Romania, the USA, Uzbekistan, Sweden, South Korea, and Japan.

On June 26, the First Prize winners of the II International Rachmaninoff Competition performed at the Gala Concert in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. They were accompanied by the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra (conducted by First Prize winner Олег Худяков / Oleg Khudyakov) and the State Symphony Orchestra “Novaya Rossiya” (conducted by Mikhail Golikov).
