90 years on stage – the last apprentice of Rachmaninoff is recording a new album
On January 15, 2022, the American pianist Ruth Slenchinska, the apprentice of Sergei Rachmaninov, turned 97 years.
Slenchinska is a living history. When you come to her concert, you can see on the stage a musician who studied with the great composer. Her musical biography began in the 1920s, when little Ruth, the daughter of emigrants from Poland, performed as a child prodigy pianist.
There is a video record of 1930, where she was barely five years old.
Slenchinska continues to perform and record music – moreover, later this year she intends to release a new solo piano album, My Life in Music.
