The II Rachmaninoff International Competition for Pianists, Composers and Conductors Opens in Moscow

On June 14 a grand concert marking the official opening of the II Rachmaninoff International Competition for Pianists, Composers and Conductors took place at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory.

The concert featured the Competition’s Artistic Director, People's Artist of Russia Denis Matsuev, and Honoured Artist of Russia Ildar Abdrazakov. They performed together with the Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra under the baton of People's Artist of Russia Valery Gergiev, Chair of the Conducting Jury.

“The Competition was established by the order of President Vladimir Putin. It is a landmark event for our country and for the global musical community. The project provides a unique opportunity for gifted artists to fulfil their creative potential and gain recognition on the international stage,” said Olga Lyubimova, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation.

“I want this celebration to reach the same heights as the first edition — and I have no doubt that it will. These exceptional musicians, representing a wide range of schools and traditions, will perform on Moscow’s leading stages. And as I always say, every member of the jury is, above all, your biggest fan,” said Denis Matsuev in his welcome address to the participants.

The II Rachmaninoff International Competition will feature 65 musicians from Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, the United Kingdom, Germany, Kazakhstan, China, Spain, Italy, Romania, Slovenia, the United States, Uzbekistan, Ecuador, South Korea, and Japan.

The international jury includes distinguished artists, composers and conductors from Russia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Germany, Spain, Romania, France, the United States, Japan, China, and South Korea.
